modelling, identification, optimisation, and process control in chemical and food industries;

Why IAM?

Q: Why should I study process control, automation, or information engineering by ERASMUS+ Programme at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava?

A: Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology is the best technological faculty in Slovak republic, and the second one in Slovak and Czech republic (see Academic Ranking and Rating Agency, ARRA). Morover, we are able to adopt your ERASMUS study programme so that it will match the study programme at your home university as much as possible. Hence, you can receive more credits during your ERASMUS study stay.

Feedback of foreign student

I just finished a two-week research visit at IAM. Besides the great atmosphere in the team, I really enjoyed the academic discussions with the members of the control group. The labs are very impressive and I would recommend asking for a tour. Bratislava is a very livable city. There are many opportunities to spend free time.

Hi, my name is Ruth and I had the pleasure to do a research visit at IAM at STU for two weeks. As I am a PhD student at RUB in Germany, the visit was intended to enable the exchange of knowledge and cooperation research. Everyone was very welcoming and the discussions about MPC-related topics were interesting and fruitful. By the way, a lab tour at IAM is a lot of fun! Besides the work, I also liked the city of Bratislava with its beautiful city centre and many cafes and restaurants that were explored and enjoyed.

I am currently a Ph.D. student at the Ruhr-Universität in Bochum, Germany, and stayed for two weeks at the STU. I had the possibility to discuss old and new ideas with the team of Prof. Fikar. Furthermore, I was writing an article together with members of the control group. I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the modern laboratories. After work, several restaurants were offered to spend the evening at. I want to thank Prof. Fikar and the whole team for two lovely weeks and I am looking forward to seeing everybody again.

I am Yannik and currently a Ph.D student at Ruhr-University Bochum in Germany. During the two weeks I spent at IAM at STU in Bratislava, I enjoyed interesting discussions on model predictive control with PhD students and researchers from the institute. I am looking forward to continuing the research collaboration in the next months. Everybody at IAM was very kind and it was a useful experience to get an idea of their approach to research and teaching. As a city, Bratislava has nice places. One of my favourite after-work activities was walking through the beautiful old town.

I am a PhD student at the University of Bochum in Germany and spent two weeks at the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation and Mathematics at STU in Bratislava. During the stay, I worked on the topic of model predictive control as part of a research collaboration. I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and had some really helpful discussions, in which I could expand my knowledge and get some new promising ideas for my future research. I also took much pleasure in having a delicious dinner in the nice old town of Bratislava.

Hi, my name is Patrik and I am a PhD Student from the Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum, Germany. I spent a two-week research visit at the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation and Mathematics at STU in Bratislava. During my visit, I had time for fruitful discussions with other PhD students from the institute and worked on a research collaboration project about model predictive control. In the evening and at the weekend, the old town of Bratislava and its surroundings offer nice places for after work activities.

I'm a Ph.D. a student at the University of Pardubice. I study chemical engineering specializing in membrane processes. I spent two weeks at the Institute of Information, Engineering, Automation and Mathematics at STU Bratislava. I was interested in modelling and optimal operation of batch membrane processes. This area of interest was „big unknown“ to me, but people at IAM helped me to understand this area very well. People at IAM are very kind, helpful and patient. Their exceptional approach to work and study is very inspiring and motivating.

Hey! I’m Bea and I study chemical engineering at the University of Cadiz in Spain, but this semester I have been studying at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava by Erasmus. I only have the good references for my professors, they are kind people who were interested in my process of adaptation to the city and the courses. They have been also interested in my academic progress and I tried to understand everything possible in their subjects. Personally, I find Bratislava, and Slovakia, really beautiful. If you like nature and hiking it is the perfect option. Also, there is a lot of people of different countries (Poland, Italy, Estonia, United Kingdom, Turkey, ...), and you can make new friends and organize travels to the cities around (Wien, Budapest, Prague, Krakow, ...). In conclusion, if you’re engineer and you’re thinking which place you should choose for your Erasmus study stay, I recommend you the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics (IAM), Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology (FCHPT), Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU).

I study chemical engineering at the University of Cádiz (UCA) in Spain. But now I am Erasmus student at the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. I met there many kind people from differents countries and, of course, many kind people from Slovakia. My professors are very interested in my academic progress and I received very good lessons supervised by the professors and their colleagues. It makes me feel really important, as we were just two students in the lesson. I would like to start again this year because of many reasons. Moreover, Bratislava is really close to Prague, Budapest, Krakow, and Vienna, and it is easy and cheap to travel there on weekends or during the holidays. Bratislava is also close to the national parks High Tatras and Low Tatras, beautiful mountains located in the northern Slovakia. In conclusion, you should think about to study in the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics (IAM), Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology (FCHPT), the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU).

I study chemical engineering at the University of Naples Federico II and I'm finishing the last semester of my master studies here in the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. Except for two courses I work here also on my master thesis. Before I left Naples, I was so upset, excited, and worried. But from the first day in Bratislava, I met many helpful and kind people: all the teacher, my supervisor, and the PhD-students. And for the first time, I work in a large laboratory with a distillation column. It's all so exciting! Moreover, I found here very nice Erasmus group: students from Spain, Poland, France, Estonia, and the UK. We go for the trips during the weekends together. We were in Vienna, Prague, and Budapest. All these capital cities are located very close to Bratislava!

In summer I studied via Erasmus at STU in Bratislava. My supervisor and colleagues were very helpful, they helped me managing the necessary issues like transport and accommodation. It was nice that they welcomed me at the bus station and took me to my dormitory. I learned working with processing plants, and computing softwares. I enjoyed also my free time, as Slovakia is located close to the many other popular and touristic European countries. To conclude, if you want to study abroad via Erasmus, STU in Bratislava is the right choice.

I'm a PhD student at Ampyx Power B.V. (NL) and University of Freiburg (GE) on Embedded Optimization. I spent one week at STU for attend a workshop on software development and I also had the chance to exchange my knowledge with the PhD students of the faculty of chemical and food technology. They have several laboratory which allow to test and verify their control algorithms. Therefore the student will learn at 360 degree control theory and deal with reality. The living cost is not high, hence if you have e.g. an Erasmus scholarship you can survive without any effort. Finally, I warmly recommend to go in STU for all the students which are interested on courses such MPC and Optimization due to the high level of of experience in this field from both professors and PhD (student).

I spent one week in the Department of Information Engineering and Process Control, Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, STU in Bratislava, for a research collaboration. Last week, I spent a quite exciting time as a visiting student at the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics, Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, STU in Bratislava. Not only the advanced laboratory which has top class equipments, but also the nice people and how professional they are in research impressed me deeply. Beside this, Bratislava is a beautiful city and public transportation in this city is very convenient which you can take to go any places without problems. I am a PhD student at Norwegian University of Science and Technology. I spent 2 months as a visiting student at STU and I found it a very pleasant experience working in such a nice and friendly atmosphere. The collaboration between the students is very good. There are seminars and lectures on different topics regularly which you can attend freely. Apart from that, I suggest STU to those student who wish to apply their methods on an experimental case due to the equipped laboratories at STU. The city is also nice and very cheap, and finding a convenient accommodation is not difficult.

With strong collaborations with well known universities in Europe and USA, e.g., University of California Berkeley, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, CentraleSupelec etc., this university is an ideal destination for study and research. You can find here a very friendly, collaborative and creative working environment. The professors and PhD students are very kind, hard working and particularly productive. Surprisingly, in a nice city like Bratislava, the price is really very cheap.

The exchange program at STU in Bratislava gave me exposure to a new organized way of thinking and gave me a strong impression of the work that I was interested in. The research team at the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation and Mathematics is flexible, innovative and well-connected to the top-ranking institutes from the European Union. The laboratories are top class and could provide the visiting scientists with a deep insight in the fields of control, system identification, and membrane-based applications. Finally, the professors and the research students here are very friendly and communicative that they might impose a reasonable influence on our careers.

I would definitely recommend studying at the Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics, Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, STU in Bratislava. It is one of the best faculties in Slovakia. It has all the necessary equipments a student may need for studying, or for scientific research. The people in the faculty are very nice and helpful. Public transportation in the city is very efficient and cheap, so a student can go to any place without problems. For the accommodation, students can get cheap and nice hostels very near to the faculty.

The institute is fully loaded with modern standards of education and research, and with highly skilled teaching and research team always ready to help. Therefore I would recommend this institute if engineering and learning is a person's interest.
Bratislava is a very affordable city and that makes it very popular amongst students, as I know the scholarship and budget of students is always from hand to mouth. Apart from being accommodative, Bratislava bears many more traits, that are attractive for stay and education here:
1) Centre point - Bratislava is the heart of central Europe, as cities like Budapest, Vienna, Prague are in a very close proximity, and in fact, Vienna is just a few kilometers away and people do up-down on daily basis between these two cities.
2) Currency - One the most satisfying trait is the currency, i.e. Euros. So, a person has no need to pay conversion charges, bank charges, as the currency is common in many countries.
3) Nature - The city is situated on the banks of river Danube, and many beautiful bridges and boats are there to enjoy it.
I myself enjoy canoeing here a lot. The city has many parks, forests and hills for the nature lovers, hikers and bikers. In short, I would like to recommend this institute for quality education and learning experience, while Bratislava because of its amazing and happening, day as well as night life along with environmental beauty at affordable budget.
