prof. Ing. Miroslav Fikar, DrSc. (rector of university) received his ME and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava in 1989 and 1994, respectively. He has stayed with the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology STU where he is currently a professor and institute director. He was Postdoc Fellow in Nancy, France (Elf Aquitaine, Ministe ́re de la Recherche), Alexander von Humboldt Fellow in Bochum, Germany and has spent several stays in Denmark, Germany, France, Switzerland. His current research interests include optimal control, MPC, and chemical process control. He is the author of Fortran package DYNO, and MATLAB toolboxes dynopt and DOTcvp. He is the author of a book Process Modelling, Identification, and Control published by Springer Verlag. You can also visit his homepage.

doc. Ing. Monika Bakošová, CSc. (vice-rector for education) graduated with full marks and honors (Minister of Education Award) in Processes, Equipment and Automation of Chemical Production at the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava. She received her PhD degree in Technical Cybernetics on Hierarchical Control of Large-scale Systems. Since 1999 she is Associate Professor at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Institute of Information Engineering, Automation, and Mathematics in Chemical Engineering and Process Control. Her research interests include modelling, simulation and control of processes in chemical technology with special emphasis on the problems of robust stabilization and robust control. doc. Ing. Michal Kvasnica, PhD. (head of institute) received the diploma in chemical engineering from the Slovak University of Technology, Bratislava, Slovakia, in 2000, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, Switzerland, in 2008. Since 2006, has been an Assistant Professor with the Slovak University of Technology, Bratislava, Slovakia. His research interests include model predictive control, modeling of hybrid systems, and development of software tools for control. He was awarded as the Best young researcher of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, in 2008. In 2010 he was awarded as the best Presentation in Session Award, American Control Conference, Baltimore. He is the co-author and developer of the MPT Toolbox for explicit model predictive control and Hybrid Systems Description Language HYSDEL. He is also the author of the tbxManager. He is the author of a book Real-Time Model Predictive Control via Multi-Parametric Programming: Theory and Tools published by VDM Verlag. You can also visit his homepage.

Ing. Ľuboš Čirka, PhD. received the Ing. and PhD. degrees in automation from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia, in 1996 and 2003, respectively. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology STU in Bratislava. His areas of research are virtual and remote laboratories, adaptive and robust control, and system identification. He is also the co-author of MATLAB toolboxes IDTOOL, MODELTOOL, and EXPID.
